About Me

My name is Elizabeth Heist and I am a recent graduate of Grove City College with a degree in Music Education and a concentration in French Horn. At Grove City, I was active in many performing ensembles including the Grove City College Wolverine Marching Band, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Chapel Choir, brass quintet, French Horn ensemble, and woodwind quintet. I had many opportunities to serve in leadership positions while at Grove City. I served as the Vice-President of the GCC Wolverine Marching Band. I have also had the privilege to serve as President, Vice-President, and Secretary of the Grove City College MENC/PCMEA chapter.

I have also been given multiple opportunities to gain experience in the music education field. I had the opportunity to teach summer instrumental music lessons to students in 4th-12th grade in the Somerset Area School District. I also work with the Somerset Area High School Marching Band as a brass and marching instructor.

Various professional organizations I belong to include: MENC – The National Association for Music Education; PCMEA (Pennsylvania Collegiate Music Education Association)

I am currently searching for a music teaching position and hope to use this blog as I continue my journey as a music education. Stayed tuned for posts on my adventures as a beginning teacher and advice for undergraduates and recent graduates.

About this Blog

I obviously feel that music is a vital part of any well-rounded education. As a person who just graduated and is preparing to find my first teaching job I felt that it would be great to use this blog to reflect on what I am learning and hold discussions with other music educators and music education undergraduates. I think it is important for us as students to talk about the profession we will soon be a part of. That being said, feel free to comment on anything here, and join in the discussion!
